Eat well
Follow the recommendations of Canada's Food Guide and eat a balanced diet, consisting of a variety of fruits and vegetables and lots of fiber every day. Eat healthy fats, limit sugar, and eat very little processed foods.
Drink water
Try to drink at least 6 to 8 glasses of water daily. When you are physically active or in hot weather, drink more. Water is a great non-calorie drink that maintains hydration and promotes healthy digestion.
Move more and spend less time sitting
Aim for 30 minutes a day of moderate-intensity activity that works your heart out. Don't complicate your life. Find simple ways to make activity part of your daily routine, such as taking the stairs, walking instead of in a car, and spending as much time as possible outdoors.

Try not to skip meals
If you skip a meal, you will be hungrier afterwards and you may eat more than you need to keep you full.
Beware of diets and fitness programs that promise easy results
Some programs and products promise quick and effortless weight loss or fitness. Most diets fail because eating less or exercising for a short time is not enough to maintain a healthy weight. This Obesity Canada cheat sheet will help you find a program that's right for you.
Focus on adopting healthy behaviors rather than your weight
“Looking your best” doesn't mean the same to everyone and everyone has their own unique way of achieving a healthy weight. Small, gradual changes to your diet and level of physical activity can make a big difference over time.
Ask for help
Maintaining your weight or, if necessary, losing pounds is far from always easy. Do not hesitate to seek the help of health professionals, especially your doctor or a dietitian. Your spouse, friends and family are also there to support you. Who knows, maybe they will set goals similar to yours!
