The mission of the winegrower is to cultivate the vine to produce wine. Its role is to maintain the vineyard, that is to say to plow, to apply manure and fertilizer. In some cases, it can also participate in the making of wine.
But since his main objective is to cultivate the vineyard and to harvest the grapes, the wine grower must think about the protection of the vineyard. He must take out suitable agricultural insurance to protect his vines from many risks.

To help winegrowers control their budget while ensuring good annual protection, the Common Agricultural Policy offers very interesting support. First, your insurer will offer you comprehensive agricultural insurance. This coverage aims to provide better supervision to all farmers and producers. To protect your crop, you are required to take out the insurance policies suited to your situation.
Take out agricultural multi-risk insurance
Multi-risk agricultural insurance includes all the useful guarantees in one and the same contract. It is a cover that is able to cover damage to the entire operation. We are talking about furniture, agricultural equipment, goods, animals and crops. The agricultural comprehensive insurance contract covers several events, namely fire, explosion, lightning strike, storm, hail, the weight of snow on the roofs, water damage, theft , glass breakage, natural disasters, terrorist attacks and acts of terrorism.
In most cases, agricultural property and casualty insurance covers your agricultural liability and your private liability. Thus, accidents caused by yourself, your spouse, your children and your employees are all covered by this insurance contract.
The optional guarantees of agricultural multi-risk insurance
In addition, your insurer will also offer you other optional guarantees such as:
Losses by runoff of wine, alcohol and loss of fertilizer

Accidents to electrical devices
Demolition and clearing costs

The loss of rents
Viticulture: hard hit insurance
Since 2016, insurers have offered hard hit insurance. This insurance covers all climatic risks in viticulture. It was put in place to encourage winegrowers to take out the right insurance, especially since multi-risk contracts are sometimes very expensive. It covers damage and damage related to frost, hail, sag, floods and storms. Compensation is paid from a minimum of 35% loss.
As for the amounts of insured capital, they depend on the classification of the holdings. In all, four maximum insurable capital ceilings are available, depending on the winegrower's production costs:
IGP: 6000 euros / hectare
AOC 1: 6000 euros / hectare
AOC 2: 11,000 euros / hectare
AOC 3: 20,000 euros / hectare
For the winegrower, the hard blow insurance is particularly interesting, because the contributions of this new device are subsidized up to 65% by the state on the basis of the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development (EAFRD). In other words, this insurance has significant financial advantages.
Multi-peril crop insurance (AMR)
Multi-peril insurance on crops, field crops and vines protects against several risks: hail, storms, drought, wind and frost. The guarantees of this insurance contract cover almost all of the losses caused by climatic hazards and illnesses with a single level of deductible, whatever the hazard. As with hard blow insurance, part of the contribution is subsidized by the French public authorities.
To supplement these agricultural insurance, you can take out agricultural tractor insurance which is particularly useful for large vineyards.
