human rights

The concept of human rights has existed under many names in European thought for many centuries, at least since the time of King John of England. After the king violated a number of ancient laws and customs under which England had been governed, his subjects forced him to sign the Magna Carta, or Magna Carta, which enumerates a number of what the we ended up considering them as human rights. Among them was the right of the church to be free from governmental interference, the right of all citizens free to possess and inherit property and to be exempt from excessive taxation. It established the right of widowed landowners to choose not to remarry and established principles of due process and equality before the law. It also contained provisions prohibiting corruption and misconduct of a public servant.

Political and religious traditions in other parts of the world have also proclaimed what has been called human rights today, calling leaders to rule with justice and compassion and limiting the limits of their power over life. , the goods and activities of their citizens.

In the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries in Europe, several philosophers proposed the concept of "natural rights", rights belonging to a person by nature and because he was a human being and not by virtue of his citizenship in a particular country or his belonging to a particular religion. or ethnic group. This concept has been vigorously debated and rejected by some philosophers as unfounded. Others saw it as a formulation of the underlying principle upon which all ideas of citizens' rights and political and religious freedom rested.

At the end of the 1700s, two revolutions took place that largely appealed to this concept. In 1776, most British colonies in North America proclaimed their independence from the British Empire in a document that still arouses feelings and debate, the United States declaration of independence.
