 NEW DURATION OF TYPE E VISAS FOR SETTLING IN THE UNITED STATES

The American and French administrations have agreed to extend the duration of E1 and E2 visas from 25 to 48 months.

This was announced in a press release on May 19, 2023, by Christopher Weissberg, Member of Parliament for the French People of North America.

A brief historical reminder: this negotiation follows a decision by the Trump administration in 2019.

The latter had judged that there was an imbalance in the conditions for obtaining visas between the two countries. Following this, it did not hesitate to considerably reduce the validity period. The E1 and E2 visas were valid for only 15 months (compared to 60 before this decision).

Following this shock for French entrepreneurs and investors, negotiations were immediately initiated. This led to an extension, increasing the duration from 15 to 25 months.

At this time, the new Franco-American agreement has not yet come into force. It will not be long before that.

"This extension of the validity period should take effect in the coming weeks, after formalization of the agreement between the parties.
