Tips to facilitate teleworking

Working from home can be really enjoyable, but you may need to make some adjustments. Here are some tips from the Government of Canada to help you optimize the way you telecommute.

Maintain a routine. We all have our habits. Routine helps us prepare for our day physically and mentally.
Prepare for the job. Wake up at the same time as if you were going to the office. Dress up and eat a solid breakfast to start the day off right.
Set up a workstation. Design your workplace to be as ergonomic as possible. Find a place where distractions are minimal and concentration is maximum.
Establish a schedule. Set a regular work schedule, with breaks and time to take care of yourself (see below).
Eat healthy. Make sure you eat properly throughout the day to stay alert.
Keep in touch. "Out of sight" does not necessarily mean "out of heart". Take a virtual coffee break with your colleagues to maintain human contact during containment.
Take care of you. Know when to take a break. Eat a small snack to recharge your batteries or take a walk outside for a bit.
Know when to stop. It's tempting, but don't make a habit of working beyond your scheduled schedule. Respect yourself. In the long run, this will prevent burnout.
The advantages of telecommuting are numerous. You just have to think about the more flexible hours and all the travel time you suddenly have to do other things. With all of this latitude, it's important to discipline yourself and minimize distractions. By doing this, you will be able to maintain (and maybe even improve!) Your productivity and meet your deadlines.
