Appearance

Tanjiro is a short young man with an athletic build. He possesses spiky black hair with burgundy tips, combed back to style for high ends, and large black eyes with white pupils that appear dark purple below the iris. [6] He also has a burn on his forehead, which he got while trying to protect his brother from a falling teapot, after a fight against a demon it turned dark red and changed shape. It should be noted that his hands are visibly tougher than someone his age should be due to his rigorous training with Sakonji Urokodaki. Tanjiro bears a remarkable resemblance to his ancestor Sumiyoshi , possessing the same facial structure, eyes, and hairstyle as him, though Sumiyoshi's hair is longer, roughly shoulder length, and tied in a ponytail behind his head.

Tanjiro first appears wearing a black and moss green checkered haori over a white dress and black pants. He sometimes wears a turquoise scarf and is seen with circular white bands wrapped around his calves. He also wears a pair of distinct hanafuda earrings, featuring the image of the sun rising over a mountain. Her hair is also tied in a small ponytail or a bun; while training with Sabito and Makomo , his hair grows to his shoulders.

During Final Selection, Tanjiro wears a blue kimono and black jinbei-style pants, almost identical to Sakonji's. He still wears his hanafuda earrings, similar to the rest of the apprentices trained under Sakonji, Tanjiro wears a hand-carved fox mask made by his master on the side of his head. The mask has eyes, ears, and red spots at each end of the mouth. In the upper right corner of the mask, a red sun-shaped pattern is decorated, which probably symbolizes the scar on his forehead.

After becoming a Demon Slayer, Tanjiro keeps his signature hanafuda earrings on his ears and checkered haori over the standard slayer uniform, which consists of a dark brown gakuran jumpsuit, a white sash around his waist and tabi socks, as well as zōri, with strips of white cloth wrapped tightly around her calves. He carries a large wooden box on his back, where his sister sleeps during the day.

During his second encounter with Muzan Kibutsuji, he injures his right eye in the Infinite Dimensional Fortress . Later, Tanjiro collapses and his wound begins to form a large bump on his right eye due to the poison inflicted on him by Muzan. Later, when Tanjiro wakes up, he is described as looking "repulsive" by Muzan. [7] Thereafter, he will have his arm cut off by the latter. [8]

After being turned into a demon by Muzan, Tanjiro is able to heal the bump on his face as well as regenerate his lost arm and other smaller injuries. He gets eyes with slit pupils, fangs, flame-like marks on his left forehead and right jaw reminiscent of Kokushibo 's , in addition to a third smaller flame-like mark running down the right side of his head to his eyebrow after defeating the weakness of all demons, the Sun. His scar turns into a flame resembling a permanent mark of the Demon Slayers. She became the longest and largest of the three. The three marks point vaguely towards his nose, though only his scar mark reaches it. He still dons his bloodstained Slayer uniform, a sleeve ripped off where his arm was severed, but loses his checkered haori and his hip sunsaber.

After reverting to his human form, Tanjiro loses the ability to see out of his right eye, whose iris is now a dull gray-pink color and pupil black rather than its original white. His left arm, which he regenerated as a demon, now takes on the appearance of what an elderly person might have, becoming wrinkled and skeletal, and he loses all sensation below the elbow and thus the ability to move it. from his shoulder down. Personality

Tanjiro is kind by nature and has been described by others as having very gentle eyes. He shows a lot of determination and will not give up as soon as he has a goal to achieve. The best example of this is his relentless quest to find a cure for Nezuko . Although he is relatively strong on his own, he is not averse to asking others for help when he needs it. He is very protective of his friends and even more of his younger sister. However, despite his kind and understanding nature, Tanjiro has a limit to his tolerance and distaste for rudeness, as he is easily annoyed by Zenitsu Agatsuma 's continual complaining and angered by Inosuke Hashibira 's barbaric acts .

Tanjiro's most notable attribute is his ability to empathize with anyone, even demons, which often made him hesitate before delivering the finishing blow. This moment of hesitation has a downside, as it allowed some demons to take advantage of Tanjiro's understanding nature to recover and continue the fight, although this rarely happens. However, over the years of service, Tanjiro gains experience and becomes more calculating and strict in his decisions. His courage to protect the weak commits him to facing his enemy with respect and dignity, whether against good people or evil demons.

Beneath Tanjiro's rather kind and friendly shell is a person filled with a burning desire for revenge and rage. This side of him comes out when Tanjiro confronts Muzan for the first time, ready to draw his sword and attack him. When Muzan escapes, Tanjiro releases his frustration and states that he will be the one to kill Muzan. At another point, when Slayers have their necks snapped by the Mother Spider Demon 's sons, Tanjiro shows noticeable anger that even Inosuke feels. This side of Tanjiro comes out in full force after Muzan's speech where he compares himself to a natural disaster. Tanjiro responds to this by referring to him as a "being that shouldn't exist".

As a demon, Tanjiro seemed to be insane, as most initially follow their transformation. He acted like a wild beast, attacking anyone in sight without hesitation. Even his friends and comrades were not safe. The only exception was Nezuko, whom he refused to harm even after tasting his blood, a possible sign that he was fighting his transformation. His hostility towards Demon Slayers could also be due to his mind being affected by Muzan's desire to kill all Demon Slayers.

Story

Small Tanjiro and Nezuko.

Tanjiro grew up on a mountain with his younger siblings and parents as the eldest son of the Kamado family. As a child, Tanjiro learned the Fire God Dance from his father, Tanjuro Kamado , subconsciously knowing that the dance was actually Sun Breath, a Breath Style used in battle to slay demons . Later in his childhood his father died of an illness, which led him to have responsibilities at an early age and to be a father figure for his brothers and sisters.

Tanjiro was very affectionate towards his siblings, going out of his way to take care of them. When one of his brothers accidentally knocked over a kettle, he protected it and received a burn scar on his forehead. Tanjiro was responsible for selling charcoal in the nearest town to earn money for the family, and seemed to frequent the town quite often, as the locals easily recognized him and regularly asked for his help.

Synopsis

Final Selection Arc

Introduction

First appearance of Tanjiro.

During the Taisho era, Tanjiro Kamado leads a modest but happy life in the mountains with his family, consisting of his mother and younger siblings.

On a snowy morning, Tanjiro is about to leave for the nearby town to sell charcoal, but his younger sister Hanako Kamado and brother Shigeru Kamado hold him back, begging him to take them. Their mother, Kie Kamado , intervenes, telling them they couldn't keep up with her. Takeo Kamado also expresses his disappointment, initially hoping to chop wood with his older brother that day. As Tanjiro is on his way to town, his sister, Nezuko Kamado , who is carrying their younger brother, Rokuta Kamado , says goodbye to him.

In town, Tanjiro has a friendly chat with the locals, with some asking him to help them run errands. After spending the afternoon in town, he begins to return home but is suddenly stopped by a man named Saburo . Saburo warns him of the dangers in the mountains at night, especially demons, and convinces Tanjiro to stay home for the night.

Tanjiro being attacked by Nezuko.

After returning home the next day, Tanjiro returns to find his entire family slaughtered by a demon, except for his younger sister Nezuko. Tanjiro takes her but finds that she has been turned into a demon. He is therefore attacked by this one, but it is then that Giyu Tomioka attacks Nezuko from behind, but fails when Tanjiro protects her. Quickly recovering, the swordsman asks the boy why is he protecting her, and he replies that the demoness is his sister but Giyu questions this claim before grabbing the girl. Giyu explains to him that his job is to kill demons. The slayer then listens to Tanjiro who tries to explain to him what his sister's situation is. Giyu then tells Tanjiro that Nezuko's change in behavior is simple to explain: anyone who gets demon blood on one of their open wounds causes that person to become a demon themselves, and they don't. There will be no cure for this evil. Tanjiro exclaims that there must be a solution. But Giyu takes his sword to Nezuko's throat.

Tanjiro bows down to the slayer, begging him for his sister's life. But Giyu gets angry at his actions. Tanjiro, distraught, sees Giyu stab Nezuko in the chest, which prompts him to attack her and then grabs his axe. However, the slayer, seeing there only an act driven by emotions, knocks out his attacker, causing him to fall to the ground. Staring at him, Giyu wonders where his ax is. Looking up, he sees the weapon spinning towards him in the air, narrowly dodging it. He then thinks about Tanjiro's cunning strategy.

Nezuko then takes the opportunity to slip out of his grip and attacks him. Giyu is then surprised to see Nezuko protecting her brother instead of devouring him. Once Tanjiro wakes up, Giyu tells him to go to the foot of Mount Sagiri , to Sakonji Urokodaki's house , as well as never expose Nezuko to the sun. Before leaving the place where they grew up, Tanjiro and Nezuko dig graves to bury their family and pray for their souls in the afterlife. [10]

Later that day, Tanjiro hides Nezuko in a small cave and goes to the nearby farm to buy a broken basket and some straw and bamboo. [11] Reaching the cave entrance, Tanjiro quickly makes a basket large enough to carry Nezuko on his back, using her shrinking abilities herself and departing for Mount Sagiri.

Around sunset, Tanjiro learns from a villager that to reach Mount Sagiri, he would have to cross a perilous mountain. Unafraid, he ignores the warning and discovers a temple with the lights on, immediately smelling blood. Distraught, he rushes into the temple to finally surprise a demon there . When the demon notices them, he senses something strange about them and quickly jumps on Tanjiro. [12] The latter quickly grabs his ax and defends himself as he can but is quickly overpowered because no matter how much ax Tanjiro strikes, the demon will regenerate each time. Nezuko then lands a kick powerful enough to rip the demon's head off. [13]

Tanjiro fighting the Temple Demon's head.

The demon grows arms over its head and fights Tanjiro as well as commands his body to attack Nezuko. [14] Tanjiro then fixes the demon against a tree trunk using his axe. [15] Tanjiro then goes to help Nezuko by attacking the demon's body and throwing it off a cliff. Although he is training with him, Tanjiro is saved by his sister. [16] Despite causing him excruciating pain with the destruction of his body, the demon does not die. [17]

Tanjiro realizes that the demon hanging in front of him smells different from the one he smelled in their house and is hesitant to finish off the demon, but then the hand of someone wearing a tengu mask appears. touching on the boy's shoulder. The masked man tells him that he won't be able to kill the demon with a knife and, to his disappointment, Tanjiro is too compassionate and overthinking, accidentally letting the Demon perish by the sun's rays. After the demon's death, Tanjiro notices that the man is already giving a proper burial to the demon's victims. [18]

Tanjiro watching the Temple Demon's death.

The masked man introduces himself as Sakonji Urokodaki and asks if Tanjiro was the one Giyu told him about, Tanjiro confirms the statement. [19] Sakonji follows his question by berating Tanjiro for his inability to make quick decisions. Sakonji states that if his sister devoured a human, he would have to kill himself. [20] Sakonji then tells Tanjiro to follow him.

On their way, Tanjiro, while carrying Nezuko on his back, quickly feels out of breath. Sakonji, despite appearing to be much older than him, follows an extremely fast pace with silent footsteps. All worn out, Tanjiro wonders if he passed the test, which Sakonji had submitted to him and the latter replies that the test would begin then as the two begin to climb a mountain. [21] When they arrive at the top of the mountain, Tanjiro feels a great fatigue inside him and has trouble breathing. Sakonji tells him to come down to the house at the foot of the mountain before dawn, then disappearing into the mist. Tanjiro, confident in his sense of smell, easily begins descending by memorizing Sakonji's scent. However, he immediately encounters several pitfalls. Tanjiro notices that he is quickly running out of air due to the altitude of the mountain and begins to focus on his breathing. Tanjiro eventually manages to reach the house before dawn, and Sakonji finally accepts him as his student.

After Tanjiro awakens, Sakonji explains his profession as a trainer, as well as to enter the Demon Slayer Army one had to first pass the Final Selection . To prepare him for this trial, Sakonji begins to train Tanjiro in swordsmanship.

Final Selection

At some point after the training begins, Nezuko falls into an endless sleep, deeply worrying Tanjiro. Sakonji tries to call a doctor, but the doctor mentions that there is nothing wrong with her. Tanjiro worries and keeps a diary which he writes daily to remember what he learns with Sakonji and also to serve as something Nezuko could read once she wakes up.

Finally, after a year, Sakonji tells Tanjiro that he has nothing left to teach him, asking him to prove himself by working on the basics he was taught. He is led to a giant boulder and his master tells him that if he can cut it in half with his saber, he would be allowed to make it to the final selection. As Tanjiro is overcome with doubt, Sakonji leaves without a word.

For six months, Tanjiro trains more and more but without success in progressing, then in a fit of desperation, hits the rock and suddenly hears a noise. A boy with a fox mask then appears scolding Tanjiro for his moaning. [22] Tanjiro surprised by the arrival of the boy, is attacked by the latter with a wooden sword. Although Tanjiro has a real sword, he quickly gets dominated and then insulted as well as knocked out by the masked boy.

When he wakes up, a girl in a fox mask asks him if everything is okay but Tanjiro was far too impressed with the performance of the boy in the fox mask. The girl explains to him that she will watch over him and introduces herself as Makomo and tells him that the boy's name was Sabito . Makomo, afterward, helped Tanjiro in his training. She clarifies to him that she and Sabito are not brother and sister but are orphans taken in by Sakonji, like many other children. She explains to him the concept of the Integral Concentration Breath . In particular, he learns the "fault line". [23]

Tanjiro cutting the rock

One day, Tanjiro confronts Sabito who was holding a real sword in the simplest stipulation: the fastest blade would win. For the first time, Tanjiro's blade reaches Sabito's mask and slices it in half. Sabito's face is revealed, with a sad smile. Makomo and Sabito disappear smiling and Tanjiro realizes he didn't split the mask, but rather the huge boulder. [24]

Tanjiro is congratulated by Sakonji. The latter reveals to him that he did not want him to participate for fear of seeing another child die. Before leaving for the Final Selection , Sakonji cuts her hair and gives her a conjured fox mask. As he leaves, Tanjiro mentions Makomo and Sabito's name, surprising Sakonji that he knows the names of his deceased students. [25]

Tanjiro admiring the wisteria of Mount Fujikasane

Tanjiro arrives at Mount Fujikasane and gathers with the other contestants, then two young children, a boy and a girl explain to them how the exam works. After the explanation, the selection finally begins [26] , but from the beginning two demons immediately start attacking Tanjiro, but are quickly decapitated by Tanjiro in one blow, thanks to the special sword called Sun Saber that had been bestowed on Tanjiro by Sakonji, who upon beheading the demons would prevent them from regenerating.

Going deeper into Tanjiro Mountain, find and then help a competitor being attacked by a giant demon with multiple arms . The demon, seeing Tanjiro's fox mask, guesses that the latter is a student of Sakonji. [27] He also asks him what period are they in, then when Tanjiro reveals it to him, discovering that 47 years had passed since his capture by Sakonji, he became furious. [28] Tanjiro not believing that the demon could have lived so long, the latter explains to him that not only had he lived a long time but that he had killed a good number of Sakonji's students in revenge such as Makomo or Sabito. Tanjiro in a fit of anger increases his breathing and charges at the demon severing several of his arms but is countered. Stunned, Tanjiro hears the call of one of his deceased brothers, Shigeru, and suddenly leaps up then uses the Water Breath First Move - Still Water Slash and decapitates the demon. [29]

At the end of the exam, Tanjiro and three other candidates, are congratulated by the two young children from the start of the exam. The latter explain to them the organization of the Army of Slayers, receiving their uniforms as well as a liaison crow . One of the survivors, Genya Shinazugawa , assaults one of the children, Kanata Ubuyashiki , to receive her Sword of the Sun , but Tanjiro intervenes in the confrontation, protecting the child. Next, each survivor is asked to choose an ore for which their blade will be forged. [30]

Sometime later, Tanjiro descends Mount Fujikasane, feeling a wave of weariness. He is particularly disturbed by the fact that he could not have asked any demon for a way to make a demon become human again. Injured and using a crutch, he returns to Sakonji's place but it is with surprise that he will discover Nezuko there finally awake, and crying with relief. Sakonji appears and hugs them both, crying with happiness that Tanjiro came back alive. [31]

Fifteen days later, Tanjiro sees at the entrance a man wearing a large hat, this one introduces himself to Tanjiro under the name of Hotaru Haganezuka and tells him that he forged his blade. Tanjiro invites him for tea but is ignored by Hotaru who unwraps Tanjiro's sword on the ground. Once inside, he explains to her that the Sun's sabers change color once unsheathed. Hotaru hopes, because of the color of Tanjiro's hair and eyes, that the blade would be bright red, but Tanjiro gets a black blade, much to his frustration. Sakonji comments that he had never seen such a shade of black and Hotaru jumps on Tanjiro, blaming him for not having the chance to see a red blade. At that moment, Tanjiro's crow warns him to go on his first demon-hunting mission. [32]

First Mission Arc

After some time Tanjiro suits up in his Slayer uniform , Sakonji explains to his student that the outfit he wears is made of a special type of fiber. To make her travels easier, Sakonji gives her a large custom-made box for Nezuko to rest in during the day. Tanjiro expresses his gratitude to his master and asks Nezuko to enter the box. Just before Tanjiro departs on his journey as a Demon Slayer, Sakonji straightens his student's clothes and bids him farewell.

The demon abducting a young girl.

Arriving in a city for his first mission, Tanjiro hears a rumor that some girls are being kidnapped by a demon at night and that's how he meets Kazumi , a villager who has had his fiancée kidnapped by the demon. Tanjiro asks him about the kidnapping and Kazumi explains to him what happened. As night falls Tanjiro smells the demon and thinks he is near.

Tanjiro using the Eighth Water Blast Move on the Swamp Demon.

Arriving at the source of the smell, Tanjiro jumps off a roof and lands in an alley. He draws his sword, preparing for battle. Tanjiro detects two different smells, a demon and a human woman. Despite the fact that there was no one in sight, he could sense that the two were actually under the ground and planted his saber there. Thus, he sees the demon reappear as well as the girl. While protecting Kazumi, Tanjiro attacks the demon but is stunned by the fact that there is not just one demon but three. He then uses the Eighth Water Blast Move: Waterfall Impact however misses their vital organs. [33] The fight continues and at the moment the demon tries to finish off Tanjiro from behind, but Nezuko arrives and saves her brother. Tanjiro then realizes he can let Nezuko protect Kazumi while he concentrates on attacking. [34]

Tanjiro asks Nezuko to continue protecting Kazumi as he heads underground. It descends into the Demon Swamp, where there is hardly any air and many victims' clothes are floating. [35]

The two demons inside the swamp believe that it must be difficult for Tanjiro to move or breathe, and that he is a fool to dive. but atop Mount Sagiri, where Tanjiro spent more than two years training, the air was much thinner than inside the swamp. There, Tanjiro also learned Water Breath forms that can only unleash their full potential underwater. [36]

The Demons swoop in just as Tanjiro is about to counterattack, but he knows he can just wait for them to close in again. He uses a technique that can be unleashed without support, a ferocious cutting vortex created by a violent twisting of the upper and lower body.

Tanjiro defeating two of the demon's bodies.

The sharp whirlwind cuts demons to pieces, killing them instantly. Despite his victory, Tanjiro is saddened by the number of casualties the Demons have claimed. The boy is out of breath and is swimming to get out of the swamp.

Tanjiro questioning the second body.

The swamp demon tries to finish off Nezuko by clawing her in the face, but Tanjiro emerges from the swamp in time to save his sister. Tanjiro cuts off the demon's arm, demanding that the demon not lay a hand on his beloved sister. He follows up by severing the demon's other arm before he can attack again, ultimately defeating the demon. [37]

The last remaining swamp demon falls and realizes that he is the only one still alive. Tanjiro tells him that he gives off a terrible stench and asks how many girls he has kidnapped. The demon tries to defend his actions by claiming he was killing girls so they wouldn't age. Angered, Tanjiro cuts out the demon's tongue and moves on to the next question. [38]

The demon refuses to give information and gets killed by Tanjiro.

Tanjiro presses his blade against the demon and forces it back against a fence. He demands to know all the demon information about Muzan. However, Tanjiro is unprepared for the crippling fear of Muzan the demon was instilled with. He cowers and shakes to the bone, saying he can't say anything. [39] [40]

The smell of fear is extremely strong and the demon acts out of panic. He goes on a rampage, forcing Tanjiro to cut off his head and kill him. [41]

Kazumi is left in shock and when Tanjiro tries to comfort him, he assaults him. Despite this, Tanjiro leaves with a smile but realizes Kazumi's mistake, so Kazumi apologizes by thanking him for his help. Tanjiro swears to defeat Muzan for the suffering he caused. His crow lands on his shoulder and directs him to Asakusa , for his next mission. While resting in a park, he detects Muzan's scent and chases him away, leaving Nezuko behind in a hurry. He locates Muzan as he walks down a busy street and is about to draw his sword when Tanjiro realizes he is holding a girl who calls him "daddy". A woman walks up and asks what's going on and the girl in Muzan's arms calls her "mom". Tanjiro can sense that the girl and the woman are human but Muzan pretends to be too. To distract Tanjiro, Muzan digs his fingernails into his palm to bloody them and slits the neck of a passing man, turning him into a demon.

He tells her not to worry, also adding that he's going to be leaving soon and he can't keep eating free meals like this. Sumiyoshi replies that it is quite normal for him to welcome him like this, since he owes him his life and, as the man does not answer, he adds that he can at least tell his story since he has no successor. The man replies that it is not necessary, because the masters of their art always meet in the same place and adds that Sumiyoshi should not consider him a special man, because that is not what he is. . He also tells him that he couldn't protect something valuable to him and that he is a worthless man, but Sumiyoshi thinks the man shouldn't think that way.

The three rush in, clapping and crying, happy that Tanjiro is finally awake, and Aoi Kanzaki joins them soon after, expressing his guilt and gratitude to Tanjiro for going to the Pleasure Quarter in his place.

Tanjiro asks them how the others are doing, to which Sumi and Goto reply that Zenitsu woke up the day after the incident and went back to work two days early and Tengen returned without the kakushi's help, with the support from his wives. Tanjiro expresses his joy that they are okay and asks about Inosuke. Sumi and Aoi explain to him that Inosuke was close to death at some point due to his bleeding and the poison circulating in his body and Tanjiro tells him that he must just be hallucinating believing he sees him hanging from the ceiling of the room at that time. Everyone looks up, realizing that Inosuke is there. He jumps up and lands on the end of Tanjiro's bed, saying he was impressed that Tanjiro noticed him and boasting that he woke up seven days before him. As Inosuke continues to fume, Kiyo shows Tanjiro a picture of a honey badger and says that Shinobu said Inosuke was like him, since he's nearly impossible to kill. Inosuke exclaims that he's immortal, but Goto tells him he's just a jerk, which causes a commotion in the room, with the former trying to attack the latter as Aoi tries to hold him back. As they continue to argue, Kanao tries to tell them to be quiet, but they ignore her until she raises her voice, shouting that Tanjiro has fallen asleep again and they should let him sleep peacefully. .

A week passes and Tanjiro makes a full recovery. He asks Naho if he got a new sword because he chipped the old one and Kiyo shows him a number of letters that Hotaru sent to him that tell Tanjiro to die and that he hates him, saying that he has no sword for him. Tanjiro expresses his guilt for asking Hotaru to make him so many swords since he keeps breaking them, but Sumi explains to him that Demon Slayers break their swords all the time, so that's probably the fault of Hotaru who took offense at this. Kiyo suggests that he go to the Weapon Masters Village to talk about it with Hotaru in person. [43]

Tanjiro, now a demon, begins attacking the other Demon Slayers, causing Giyu to attack Tanjiro to stop him. Inosuke rushes towards Tanjiro, promising to stop him in his rampage, but after a flashback he cannot bring himself to hurt Tanjiro and the latter reaches out to Inosuke, threatening to attack him. [44]

Skills & Competencies

General Abilities: From the start, Tanjiro proved to be a prodigious fighter, having a strong natural aptitude for combat, especially swordsmanship. Tanjiro has previously been shown to have superhuman characteristics, such as extraordinary senses, heightened sense of smell, immense willpower, and high intelligence. His naturally obtained abilities go so far as to allow him to outsmart and catch Giyu Tomioka, one of the most powerful Demon Slayers, off guard and nearly deliver a fatal blow with nothing but his intense emotions. Right after learning water breathing and taking the final selection, he was able to easily eliminate many low-level demons without the help of others, even those who possessed Blood Power and were previously members of the Twelve Demon Moons , namely the Swamp Demon and Kyogai . After recalling the Hinokami Kagura, he learned from his father as a child that he would have defeated Rui, the Eleventh Moon, had Rui not cut off his head first, a feat many thought only a Pillar could do. What's most impressive about Tanjiro is his unprecedented growth rate even in the midst of battle, something that shocked Sekido and allowed him to fight higher-ranked demons after facing members of lower rank a few months earlier. His strength increased further as he awakened his Demon Slayer Mark and trained even more, Tanjiro proved able to stand up to even higher ranks like Akaza, with Giyu recognized as being of the same caliber as the Pillar. Despite being poisoned by Muzan, Tanjiro was able to fight alone against Muzan, who had just single-handedly defeated the remaining five Pillars along with Zenitsu and Inosuke. Muzan expressed feelings of unease towards Tanjiro due to the similarities between him and Yoriichi, the strongest Demon Slayer and Swordsman to ever exist, showing off his immense power. By the end of the series, while he hasn't become the strongest Demon Slayer, there's no denying his extraordinary strength and growth along his journey.

Mark of the Demon  Slayers: Tanjiro first awakens his mark by battling Upper Rank Six, Gyutaro , and once again against the split forms of Hantengu , Upper Rank Four. Later, the mark reappears during his rematch against the Third Upper Moon, Akaza. In his marked state, Tanjiro's strength, speed, and reaction time increase dramatically. In his fight with Akaza, having gained access to the Transparent World in addition to his Demon Slayer Mark, Tanjiro is able to move fast enough to cut off Akaza's head without giving him time to react, a move that would have killed Akaza if it weren't for him to overcome his weakness to being decapitated by theSword of the Sun. However, it should be noted that Akaza's Compass Sensing ability relied on his ability to sense his opponent's fighting spirit, and Tanjiro was unable to show any fighting spirit during this attack. The downside of its marked state is that Tanjiro can only enter it on rare occasions, and he can only use it for a very short time as it causes his body to become exhausted, as proven in his battles. against the Higher Ranks.

Crimson Red Sun Saber  : Tanjiro first unlocked this ability after Nezuko Kamado ignited his sword using his Pyrokinetic Blood Power, which gave him an edge over the Hantengu clones. During his second battle against Muzan, Tanjiro gains the ability to dye his Nichirin sword a bright red color after nearly dying and mastering the sun's breath and later waking him up one last time with Giyu's help to drive Muzan into a corner and hinder his instant regeneration.

Transparent World  : Like his father, he gained the ability to predict the opponent's attack by analyzing and sensing the blood flow, muscles, skeletal/joint alignment, and organs of his opponents. In this state, his movement intuition and evasion speed increased significantly. He accessed this state by remembering his father's words and used it in the midst of battle to defeat Akaza. Although he has learned to use it, he does not fully master it as shown when he had trouble perceiving it during his fight against Muzan.

Enhanced Accuracy: Even before training to become a Demon Slayer, Tanjiro had impeccable aim and accuracy. This was shown when he outmaneuvered Giyu and threw his ax in the air on a perfect trajectory such that it would have hit his head. Later, as Akaza escaped into the forest, Tanjiro threw his katana with incredible precision over a long distance until it pierced the body of the Higher Rank. Tanjiro also showed great accuracy against Muzan, where Tanjiro was able to aim and launch a barrage of swords at the Demon King with pinpoint accuracy.

Tanjiro using his sense of smell.

Enhanced Smell: Tanjiro possesses an enhanced sense of smell at the edge of supernatural territory. Even before becoming a Demon Slayer, Tanjiro was known in a village as the boy with an extremely strong sense of smell. It is able to pick up even the most subtle scents and track their location with terrifying accuracy over long distances. She is strong enough that he senses the "opening thread", the slight pause in an enemy's movement that allows him an opening to strike.

Extrasensory Perception: Using his superhuman senses, Tanjiro can perceive things outside of the normal range of perception, such as the intentions, feelings, and thoughts of other creatures, even animals such as insects and birds. He can also sense the aura and presence of demons and even know their strength level at a glance. This allows him to discern humans from demons over a long distance, with the strongest demons smelling more disgusting, overpowering, and malevolent than other weaker demons.

Pseudo-precognition: While training with Yoriichi Type Zero, Tanjiro's sense of smell further evolved to be able to predict the future movements, actions, and intentions of others simply through smell, even of beings. non-living like Yoriichi Type Zero himself. Tanjiro noted that the scent of the future was different and much faster compared to the scent of the "opening thread", giving him reflexes and movements comparable to a Hashira and allowing him to face the Hantengu clones from the start.

Enhanced Strength: After his training at Sagiri Mountain, Tanjiro gained superhuman strength in his arms and legs and showed great use of it, leaping over the huge Hand Demon and leaping over buildings effortlessly. Tanjiro also broke Genya Shinazugawa's arm and Inosuke Hashibira's ribs when angry and sent him flying with a few punches. With his katana, he could slice through gigantic boulders and entire trees and later cut off Akaza's head, a feat even Kyojuro Rengoku could not accomplish when severely injured. When posing as a courtesan, he was shown to carry dozens of large boxes with ease, and when angered, he ripped off a higher rank's leg. When training with Gyomei Himejima, he was tasked with lifting 3 huge logs on his back and pushing a boulder through the city.

Genius Intelligence: Tanjiro is incredibly analytical and sagacious, while displaying a natural aptitude and innate intuition in many varied fields. Even against opponents who vastly surpass him in multiple categories, Tanjiro is able to create strategies to beat an opponent on the fly and in danger even if it results in his own death. By seeing a fighting style once, Tanjiro can analyze it, and it's even possible for him to accomplish such a feat, even in the midst of an ever-changing locale where he has no environmental advantages or advantages. Was noted for being highly adaptive against any opponent as well as an explosive growth rate. Additionally, he is an expert at using his opponent's abilities against them. Even if the opponent doesn't offer any real or specific details about his power, Tanjiro can pick up subtle phrases and words used throughout his fights to deduce the ability in no time. He even summoned new abilities, even new breathing styles and used them effectively after using them once, even able to combine techniques even though he wasn't fully proficient in any of them .

Fighting Intuition: This trait of Tanjiro was emphasized by Giyu during their first encounter, in which Tanjiro deftly hatched a plan to attack Giyu by surprise by charging towards him, not showing the Demon Hunter that he wasn't. unarmed, and take down Giyu with an ax he threw in the air before. The attack failed, but Giyu was still very impressed with Tanjiro's plan, especially since he was a rookie at the time. Additionally, Tanjiro also displayed proficiency in hand-to-hand combat despite never having practiced martial arts before, which allowed him to pick up and adapt to the fighting style instantly. animal with bare hands by Inosuke Hashibira.

Hard Skull: Tanjiro has a solid skull, which the temple demon compares to a rock. In some situations, he can headbutt the opponent hard enough to stun them or knock them out completely, in some situations even causing their head to bleed upon impact. Successfully hitting the Temple Demon twice in a row without being stunned shows he is capable of hitting it more than once. The full power of this attack is shown to give Inosuke a delayed concussion while Tanjiro suffers no backlash from it. Tanjiro also headbutted the Pillar of Wind, Sanemi Shinazugawa, having temporarily knocked him out, leaving the other Hashira in awe of his durability.

Immense Speed and Reflexes: Tanjiro possesses superhuman speed and reaction time, being able to travel faster than the eye can see and even move faster than Sabito, an extremely skilled swordsman, and react to movement speeds blinding demons before he even started using the Blast of Integral Concentration . After a few months of training at the Butterfly Domain, his speed and reflexes could rival those of the strongest members of the lower ranks of the Twelve Demon Moons. When angry, he was able to move faster than Daki, a higher rank demon, could even react. Tanjiro has also shown the ability to casually bombard lower level demons and regular humans. Later, he was able to bombard all Hantengu clones simultaneously and track Akaza, one of the fastest demons in existence. After awakening his Demon Slayer Mark, Tanjiro's speed increases further to the point that even Akaza cannot react in time and process his moves. After awakening his Demon Slayer Mark, Tanjiro gains extremely acute reflexes, dodging and reacting to attacks from Akaza and the Demon King, Muzan Kibutsuji.

Immense Stamina and Stamina: Tanjiro has incredible stamina and stamina, even before he became a demon slayer, showed when he had to train in a mountain with little or no oxygen for several days, dodging traps, running and traversing from top to bottom, and improve his fencing skills and his physique in these difficult conditions. His stamina and stamina were further enhanced after mastering the Breath of Integral Concentration, allowing him to exert himself physically 24/7. He was able to join the fight against Daki and Gyutaro despite almost going over his life limit minutes before. His stamina increased further after he mastered the Hinokami Kagura, the same style of breathing that allowed his sickly father to dance until dawn in the snow when he was barely clothed. When training with Kotetsu, Tanjiro was able to endure extremely harsh training for seven days non-stop with no food and barely any water he received from the rain. He also fought lower rank demons for 5 hours in the Infinity Castle and was still able to hold his own and defeat the upper rank three, Akaza, then engaged in a skirmish with the Demon King, Muzan Kibutsuji, for 1 hour and 30 minutes until dawn. Additionally, he lasted one of the longest of all other Pillar and Pillar level fighters, while also being able to tolerate and remove all damage and wounds he received from lethal blood attacks. of Muzan Kibutsuji, to poison and his powerful physical blows.

Indomitable Will: Tanjiro possesses an unwavering will and spirit, being able to fight and fight enemies stronger than himself with his willpower alone to slay demons and protect his sister even when he has suffered severe injuries and injuries. The death of his family also played a big part in his insurmountable will, his visions of his family members spurring him on in times of crisis, enabling him to overcome all hardships. During the Natagumo Mountain arc, Tanjiro was willing to sacrifice his life for his sister, relying on nothing but sheer determination to fight off Rui's attacks to kill him. When battling Enmu, he showed his supernatural will by relentlessly killing himself in his dreams in order to wake up from the demon's sleeping spell, a feat that even Enmu found insane. After Kyojuro Rengoku's passing, his last words and actions had a major impact on Tanjiro's mindset and willpower, increasing it to unprecedented levels, demonstrated when he didn't give up, no matter what. however hopeless the situation, in the face of the higher rank demons, no less. His spirit also played a big part in the final moments of Muzan Kibutsuji's death, where his willpower allowed him to overcome his blood and become human again.

Repetitive Action: A technique practiced by a few members of the Corps, it allows a person to achieve the same effects as Total Concentration Breathing by using preset repeated movements or remembering intense feelings to open the five senses and heighten their concentration, bringing out the physical powers of the body for a long prolonged period. Both Repetitive Action and Full Concentration Breathing can be used simultaneously, granting the user immense strength capable of rivaling higher rank demons. Tanjiro learned this technique after consulting Genya Shinazugawa. He elevates his concentration to its maximum limits by remembering the faces of his loved ones and repeatedly recalling Kyojuro Rengoku's phrase "Ignite your soul".

Selfless State: By unlocking the Transparent World, Tanjiro also learned the ability to completely erase his presence on his father's battlefield, including his entire fighting spirit. This ability allowed Tanjiro to completely nullify/bypass Akaza's ESP through his Developmental Technique, Destructive Death: Compass Needle Technique and decapitate him. This technique can also mask killing intent and malice, allowing them to fight undetectable against enemies that rely on sensing one's fighting intent.

Fighting Style

Master Swordsman: Tanjiro has always been a swordfighting prodigy, beginning with skills rivaling Sabito, one of Sakonji Urokodaki's strongest students and surpassing him within months and avenging his death by defeating the demon of the hand. Although he was ranked Mizunoto, his skill with the sword was superior to many of his elders, even to the point of defeating two lower-ranking members of the Twelve Moons. His improvement in swordsmanship is also exceptional, as evidenced by the fact that he was able to take on higher ranked demons months after recovering from injuries and having no experience in fighting against them. enemies of this caliber in the past. Mitsuri Kanroji even commented that accomplishing such a feat was equivalent to intensive training for 4 years. With extensive training in the Blacksmith Village, his skills and prowess with the blade could match that of the Pillars, the strongest sword-wielders in the entire Demon Slayer army. Later, he could face Muzan, showing his immense mastery of the blade, making him perhaps one of the strongest swordsmen of the current generation.

Sword Skills

Water Breath  : Taught by Sakonji Urokodaki, a former Water Pillar and Water Breath cultivator. This was Tanjiro's initial breathing style before he switched to Hinokami Kagura, a breathing style his father taught him as a child, which he states suits him more. However, during the locale where he used the Breath of Water, he became extremely proficient, allowing him to take on two members of the Twelve Demon Moons, Rui and Enmu.

Breath Hybridization

During his battle against Upper Moon Number Six, Gyutaro , Tanjiro was able to combine two Breath styles, both Water Breath and Fire God Dance , which allowed him to greatly increase his speed for a short time and perform attacks that possess the qualities of both Breath styles.

Demonic Abilities

Tanjiro is later transformed into a demon by Muzan Kibutsuji, the latter killed by the slayer, hoped to convey his feelings and abilities to Tanjiro, deeming him capable of carrying out his designs and becoming the true immortal king of demons. Although Tanjiro was quickly turned back to human via Tamayo 's humanizing drug , the power he demonstrates during this brief time as a demon appears to be at least on par with that of an Upper Moon, if not Muzan himself. Later, Yushiro said that, in terms of biological potential, Tanjiro's potential to evolve as a demon was much higher than that of his sister, who was the first demon to develop resistance to sunlight. , as well as in Muzan.

Advanced Regeneration  : Tanjiro possessed a tremendous ability to regenerate, easily equaling an Upper Moon. Upon becoming a demon, he recovered from all the injuries he suffered during his fights with Akaza and Muzan, receded the growth on his face caused by Muzan's poisoning, and later regenerated the damage he received. caused sunlight in seconds. He was also able to instantly regrow his severed arm. According to Giyu, Tanjiro's regeneration speed, along with his resistance to sunlight, made him virtually invincible.

Sun Resistance  : After his first transformation, Tanjiro is initially affected by sunlight like any normal demon, but he quickly develops a resistance to it and is quickly able to move around in broad daylight without taking damage. It's possible he's able to do this because, as Muzan noted just before his death, he shares blood with Nezuko, a demon who conquered the sun, and his abilities seem to stem from his own. Giyu claimed that with his immunity to sunlight, and his advanced regeneration, Tanjiro was virtually invincible.

Resistance to Crimson Red Sun Sabers  : According to Giyu, Tanjiro's Sun Immunity also gives him resistance against Crimson Red Sun Sabers.

Shapeshifting  : Similar to Muzan, and likely because he inherited his blood, Tanjiro has displayed shapeshifting abilities. He can grow thorn-like protrusions from his back that extend like bladed whip-like tentacles that greatly increase his attack range. However, possibly due to his mindset, Tanjiro hasn't shown the same skill in wielding them as Muzan.

Blood Power

Following his transformation by Muzan into a demon, albeit for a short time, Tanjiro is said to have developed what appears to be Blood Power. His power is based on the manipulation of waves and energy.
