Nine practical tips for your spring cleaning

Now that the days are longer and sunnier, why not get your house cleaned up, just in time for summer?

After a long cold winter, spring cleaning is an annual tradition that motivates people and gets them moving. Here are nine tips to help you make your home a pristine space, quickly and efficiently.

1. Establish a strategy.

The best way to tackle spring cleaning is to make a plan. Make a list of all the tasks you need to complete and the time each task should take you. Next, determine the top five tasks you want to tackle and decide when you are going to take on each of them. This will make spring cleaning less stressful and less intimidating. When you've figured out what to do and when, write them down on the calendar so you don't forget them. You can also schedule a reminder on your smartphone.

2. Make sure you have all the necessary equipment.

There is nothing more annoying than starting a task and realizing that you don't have the necessary materials to complete it. Before you begin your spring cleaning, make sure you have all the necessary cleaning supplies. If you are missing an item, get it online. While shopping online, you might want to get a shower organizer or basket to store your cleaning supplies that you use the most. It will be so much easier for you to transport them from room to room.

3. Put away winter items.

Winter coats, scarves, hats, gloves and boots take up a lot of space. Pack all your winter stuff in a bin and put it away until next year. Take the opportunity to rummage through your closet to find winter clothes or accessories that you haven't worn this season. If you think you won't be wearing them next winter either, it might be time to put them on.

4. Peel her wardrobe.

This spring, why not browse the rest of your wardrobe as well? After you have cleaned up the contents of your closet, you will only be left with your favorite clothes and accessories. You'll have more space in your closet and you'll be able to find the things you're looking for more easily! Donate unwanted items to your favorite charity for someone else to enjoy.

5. Set a timer.

Some people love spring cleaning, while others will do anything to avoid it. Set a schedule that works for you! Divide your tasks and try to limit distractions while you do them: no texting or TV breaks! Set yourself achievable goals and indulge yourself! Tell yourself that if you spend two hours cleaning the garage, you can watch two or three episodes of your favorite show later. Remember, it's about finding the right balance!

6. Clean from top to bottom.

When cleaning a room, start at the top and work your way down. Focus on the ceiling first: clean the fans and light fixtures. Then wash the walls with a mop and a diluted all-purpose cleaning solution, but this time start at the bottom. It may be a good idea to try the solution in question in an inconspicuous area first to make sure it doesn't leave marks on the wall or remove paint. Then move on to the floors. Be careful when moving furniture and appliances.

7. Clean the refrigerator.

You would be surprised to see what is in your refrigerator. Take a closer look at the expiration dates and throw out any expired food. Remove the drawers and wash them separately in hot water with dish soap. Most stains can be removed from the refrigerator with baking soda; mix it with a small amount of water to form a paste. And at the same time, why not take the opportunity to search your pantry to see what you want to keep and what you can donate to your local food bank?

8. Create a task table.

Creating a task board is a great way to involve the whole family and spend time together. This is a simple and effective way to get everyone involved and keep track of what each person needs to do. You can use a list with photos, a wheel, or any other task board that works for you.
