Insurance for your bike
There are many ways you can protect your bike on your property. Read on to learn how to prevent theft and property damage and what to do after a burglary.
How to deter bike theft
Leave your bike in a safe, well-lit place. If possible, bring him into the house.
Secure it with a padlock. When you're not using your bike, secure it with a padlock, even if you leave it in your garage.
Make sure that your bicycle is attached to a fixture firmly anchored to the ground, which cannot be removed and taken with the bicycle. Remember that wood is easily cut.
Avoid using old brackets that only hold the bottom of the wheel in place.
Try to keep the space between the lock and the bike as small as possible to prevent tools from being used to cut the lock.
Attach the two wheels and the frame.
Don't make it easy for thieves. Whenever possible, use two different padlocks at the same time (for example a chain and a U-lock) for two good reasons: most thieves don't want to linger on the scene of their mischief. and they may not have the time or the tools to cut the two padlocks in a short time.
Items that can be removed easily or quickly should be locked or taken with you. These very practical items for cycling can also be useful for thieves.
Register your bike
Let's face it, no lock is perfect. Thieves are always quick to get around any new anti-theft device on the market. If you want to get your bike back after a theft, register it with the local police department, or better yet, put it on a nationwide network list that you can find in specialty stores.
What if, despite everything, your bicycle was stolen?
Bicycles are covered by home insurance up to a certain limit. You can still make a claim for the theft of your bicycle, but insurance is usually provided for large losses that you cannot afford.
You may be offered additional protection options. Please contact an advisor.
