How many accidents have you had in the last 6 years?

Information on the number of accidents you have had in the past six years is kept in a database administered by the GAA. It is called the Central Automobile Sinister File, or FCSA. It includes all the claims you have had with an automobile, motorcycle or off-road vehicle.

The "vehicle keeper"

A claim is attributed to the custodian of the vehicle and not necessarily to its owner. Was it your friend who was driving your vehicle at the time of the accident? The event will be entered in their file and not in yours. Has your son had an accident with your car? The accident will be recorded in his file.

To better understand the rules for attributing a claim, see the examples presented on the page To whom a claim will be attributed

Who can consult it?

The Central Register is public. You can obtain and verify all claims in your file free of charge.

An insurer from whom you request a quote will also consult your claims file to establish your insurance premium. The premium generally takes into account the number of losses or claims you have made.

To consult your claim file
