Glass breakage guarantee

It is a guarantee that covers the cost of repairing or replacing the glass surfaces of a car: windshield, side windows and rear window.

However, many insurance contracts offer to extend the warranty to all other glass surfaces of the car:

    The headlights optical units;
    The mirrors;
    The sunroof glass.

Depending on the contracts, the guarantee may be accompanied by a deductible.

Another question, should we repair or replace? Note that only a windshield can possibly be repaired. The side windows and the rear window cannot be repaired: in the event of an impact, they must be replaced.

As for the windshield, to be repairable, the impact must meet several conditions:

    Not be in the driver's field of vision;
    Be 4 cm away from the edges of the windshield;
    Its diameter must be less than 3 cm.

Fire and explosion guarantees

Below is a table with the list of the main damages due to the fire and their coverage (or not) by the insurer.
Repair costs covered Repair costs not covered

    Spontaneous combustion (without flame)
    Lightning (unless considered a natural disaster)

    Damage from a cigarette burn
    Damage caused by poor maintenance
    Consequential electrical damage caused by wear and tear
    Personal effects that were in the vehicle (unless included in the contract)

Of course, any interior or exterior fire and vehicle explosion are only compensated if they are absolutely unintentional.
Guarantees against the effects of wind, catastrophes, attacks

This is a somewhat special guarantee, because it never goes alone: it automatically accompanies any subscription of a "damage" type cover (collision or all accidents), or "fire and explosion".

As with any claim, there are always reporting deadlines to be observed. For most claims, insurers set deadlines at five days. Always read what your contract says. Another reflex to have: take photos of the incident immediately, to prove your statements.
The effects of wind: storms, hurricanes, cyclones

The effects of the wind are always devastating, so if your car is new, it is better to take out damage or fire insurance, so that you are also covered against storms.

If a tree falls on your car during a storm and it is a case of force majeure, the responsibility of the owner of the tree (a neighbor, the municipality or other ...) cannot be engaged. Hence the interest in being properly insured.

It should also be noted that auto or motorcycle insurance contracts also offer a guarantee called "forces of nature" or "climatic events". This comes into play in the event of natural events not officially declared as natural disasters. This is the case, for example, for damage due to frost or snow. In certain “at risk” regions, it can be interesting. To do with his insurer.
Natural disasters

According to the Insurance Code, the effects of natural catastrophes are considered to be “direct non-insurable material damage having had as a determining cause the abnormal intensity of a natural agent, when the usual measures to be taken to prevent such damage have not been possible. prevent their occurrence or could not be taken ”(article L. 125-1, paragraph 3). It could be a flood, an avalanche, an earthquake.
The guarantee applies provided that the climatic episode is qualified as a "natural disaster" by a ministerial decree published in the Official Journal, to precisely determine the area and the nature of the damage. This is the starting point for any official process.

Be aware that if the winds exceed 145 km / h on average for ten minutes, or if they exceed 215 km / h in gusts, a "storm" will be reclassified as a "natural disaster".
Technological disasters

This guarantee covers damage resulting from technological disasters which have also been the subject of an order in the Official Journal.

The cost of repairing the vehicle, if possible, or the cost of its replacement, is covered up to the limit of the replacement value of an equivalent vehicle on the local market. In all cases, deductibles and obsolescence rates are not taken into account when calculating compensation.
Attacks and acts of terrorism

    Article L. 126-2 of the Insurance Code stipulates that damage resulting from acts of terrorism or attacks cannot be excluded from a "damage" or "fire" auto or motorcycle insurance contract.
