Auto insurance, what documents are required?
auto insurance certificate
As part of any road control, any driver must be able to prove that his civil liability is insured (article R. 211-14 of the Insurance Code). For this, each year, after payment of the premiums by the insured, the insurer sends proof of insurance, which includes several documents.
Auto insurance certificate
This is also called the "green card". You must always have it on you at all times, along with your driver's license and vehicle registration document. She mentions:
The name and address of the company or mutual insurance company;
The surname, first names and address of the insured;
The period of validity of the insurance contract;
The characteristics of the insured vehicle.
Failure to present the insurance certificate is a contravention which first results in a fine of € 35. After this first report, the insured has five days to report to the gendarmerie or the police station in order to present his insurance certificate. Failure to do so faces a fixed fine of € 135.
The fines are the same if the insured has changed his vehicle without notifying his insurer and therefore holds a certificate that does not correspond to the vehicle he is driving.
The auto insurance certificate
This is a small, square green sticker that should be affixed prominently to the car's windshield. The insurer also provides a transparent pocket to stick inside the car. All you have to do is slip the certificate into the pocket, front side facing the outside of the car, so that it is readable by all.
In the case of a two or three-wheeled vehicle, the certificate must be affixed to a surface located in front of the plane formed by the front fork (articles A211-9 and A211-10 of the Insurance Code) .
Failure to have an insurance certificate on the vehicle results in a fine of € 35.
