Bicycle insurance
Your bike trips in peace!
Few of the French do not have a bicycle at home: folding bicycle, mountain bike, hybrid bike, cargo bicycle, electric bicycle, tandem or racing bicycle. These little gems can sometimes be very expensive and are therefore very prone to theft, despite all the protective devices, chains and padlocks, which cyclists equip themselves with. There are also risks of breakage of the bicycle in the event of a fall.
Your comprehensive home insurance covers your bicycle against theft, but only when it is in your home. However, additional specific insurance will allow you to be covered wherever you are, as long as you remember to secure your bike with a good lock when you park it. You can also be covered in the event of an assault aimed at stealing your bike.
It is also possible to cover your bike if it is damaged following a fall during a walk or a competition or, more seriously, in the event that you are hit by a car. Depending on the damage suffered, the insurance may decide to replace your bike or rather to have it repaired.
VAEs, mountain bikes, hybrid bikes and other types of bikes are expensive: taking out dedicated insurance allows you to prevent yourself against all risks. Do not hesitate to compare the different prices before choosing!
What type of bike can we insure?
Bike insurance covers all new and used bikes. Depending on the characteristics of your bike, it is recommended to take out your bike insurance as soon as you purchase your new means of transport. Your bike should generally be less than two years old, and its purchase value should not exceed 8,000 euros.
Bike insurance contracts are not only reserved for high-end bikes. All traditional bicycles (i.e. without electric assistance) on the market are also affected by bicycle insurance, whether they have 2, 3 or even 4 wheels.
Bike and electric bike insurance is for the following vehicles:
Road, city and racing bikes
Mountain biking (mountain biking)
The hybrid bike (mixed between a mountain bike and a racing bike)
Electrically assisted bicycles, with the exception of speed-bikes
For your electrically assisted bicycle to be considered a bicycle and not a moped, your bicycle must meet the following criteria:
The electric assistance is cut off when the vehicle exceeds a speed of 25 km / h, or when the cyclist is not pedaling
Motor power is limited to 250 Watts
What does bicycle insurance cover?
A bicycle insurance for individuals covers your private trips and your trips to your place of work or your place of training.
Depending on the option chosen, a theft guarantee covers the replacement or repair of your bicycle and your electric bicycle, in the event of break-in or theft with muggings.
A damage guarantee covers the repair of your bike in the event of an accident or impact, in the event of a fall or even in the event of fire.
Bike insurance contracts also protect your two-wheeler in the event of natural disasters, technological disasters and acts of vandalism if a complaint is made.
Before taking out your bicycle insurance, we recommend that you take note of the cases of exclusions (cyclist's equipment, objects transported, etc.) and the amount of any deductibles by reading the conditions appearing in your contract.
