The amicable report in the event of an accident

When several vehicles collide, each driver completes an amicable report for each accident he has suffered and / or caused:

    An observation with the driver of the vehicle in front;
    Another observation with the driver of the vehicle from behind.

While the first car in the pile-up only damaged the rear, its driver made only one amicable report, with the driver behind. As for the driver of the last car in the pile-up, he also has only one mutual agreement to make, with the driver of the vehicle in front.
Determine liability in the event of an auto accident

In a pile-up, the principle is as follows: every driver is responsible for the accident caused in front of him, since every driver is supposed to remain in control of his speed in all circumstances.

Imagine… One of the cars managed to dodge the pile-up by turning right or left without hitting anyone. But then it is thrown onto a vehicle because of the shock caused behind it by a car that could not stop: in this case, the drafting of the amicable report is essential! In the “Observations” section, the unfortunate driver will mention very precisely how the various accidents unfolded, with sketches and, if possible, testimonies. This will allow his insurer to determine each person's responsibilities very precisely.
The guarantees of the auto insurance contract

If the driver who is in the middle of the pile-up is fully insured:

    His contract will cover the damage he caused to the rear of the vehicle he crashed into;
    Damage to the front of his car is also covered by his comprehensive insurance, less any deductible, provided for by his car insurance in the event of a responsible accident;
    He will receive compensation for damage to the rear of his vehicle caused by the rear car.

On the other hand, if the driver is only insured with a third party, only the damage of his "victim" is covered: he himself will only be compensated for damage to the rear of his car.
What to do in the event of an auto accident with a foreign vehicle?

In the event of an accident abroad or an accident in France with a vehicle registered abroad by your company, the loss must be declared as quickly as possible to its French insurer. It is in fact he who will be in charge of investigating the case and seizing, if necessary, the French central office.

The French Central Office (BCF) was created in 1951, as part of the Green Card system, to facilitate international automobile traffic and the settlement of resulting claims. It guarantees compensation for victims of accidents caused in France by foreign vehicles and accidents caused abroad by French vehicles.
