Insurance IntermediariesPour Most insured and non-insurance professionals, insurance intermediaries are almost exclusively combined with general insurance agents and insurance brokers. However, if it is true that a general insurance agent or a broker is an insurance intermediary, we must not believe that the category of insurance intermediaries is limited to these two business profiles.

The exact definition of an insurance intermediary is provided to us in article L511-1 of the book V of the insurance code, where it is written: "is an intermediary of insurance or reinsurance any person who, against remuneration, exerts an intermediation activity in insurance or reinsurance. " From this definition, two elements stand out.

The insurance intermediary is therefore a person:

1) who exercises an insurance intermediation activity,
(2) who receives compensation in return for this activity.

Therefore, before seeking to define who are insurance intermediaries, the insurance intermediation should be examined, trying to present it and above all to define it.

Intermediates of Assuranceainsi, as part of this part to take stock of insurance intermediaries, we will first begin by providing a thorough definition and presentation of insurance intermediation, knowing that the legal foundations defining The nature of this activity and providing the rules of operation are in the insurance code. Indeed, the Insurance Code devotes a whole book (book v) to the insurance intermediation activity, both in its legislative part and in its regulatory part (gathering decrees and decrees).

After taking stock of insurance intermediation, we will stop on the two most famous insurance intermediaries of the general public: the general insurance agent and the insurance broker. We will brush the portrait and describe the functions of each of these insurance actors to better understand their role and the relationships they have both with insurers and insured.

Finally, in a last time, we will focus on the authorization to the professional insurance capacity, indispensable for insurance intermediaries to be allowed to exercise legally their activity.
