Insurance per kilometer

Today it's called "pay as you drive" or even "PAYD". The principle is simple: the less you drive, the less expensive the insurance. Some insurers add preferential rates in the event of driving on certain “off” days of the week or during a specific time slot.

To do this, the insured begins by taking out an annual insurance plan at a fixed price. After that, the insurer provides him with an electronic box (GPS type) intended to transmit the number of kilometers traveled.

According to the insurers, the different pricing methods for the offers are:

    A monthly package of kilometers, with a reduction in the premium if this package is not traveled. Conversely, beyond the package, a price is set per additional kilometer traveled;
    Actual pricing per kilometer, without a package of any kind, for example between € 0.01 and € 0.04 depending on the profile, background and bonus of the insured.

This new type of contract is globally 20 to 25% below market prices. This saves money on your insurance bill, especially when you are a young driver or when you use your vehicle very little.
If the vehicle never drives

If your vehicle is stored in a garage and it is not insured, as long as it is not in circulation, the insurance obligation does not apply. However, your civil liability remains unresolved: if the vehicle catches fire or its brakes are released and it causes a loss, as the owner, you will have to compensate any victims. Hence the interest in ensuring at least a third.
Insure a collector's vehicle

A collector's vehicle is a machine which:

    Over 25 years old, unless the model is rare. In this case, it can still be declared a "collector's vehicle" even if it is less old;
    Has a special “collector's vehicle” gray card;
    No longer passes technical control.

As the exits of the collector's vehicle are in principle quite limited, so are the risks. Therefore, the rates are quite reasonable. Especially if, on the other hand, the owner insures other vehicles with the same company. In this case, he must take out collector fleet insurance as soon as he has at least two collector vehicles.

Always compare prices between your “normal” insurer and an insurer specializing in collector vehicles, which can charge prices and provide more attractive services.
