HASSAN RABAT TOWER
The square tower is the minaret of a mosque built under Yacoub el Mansour, in 1196, of the Almohad dynasty. The tower is 16m20 wide and 44m high. Its resemblance to the Koutoubia of Marrakech, and the Giralda of Seville is striking, which suggests that its height should be about double to respect the dimensions in force by the Almohad architects. The works were abandoned after the death of Sultan Yacoub El Mansour, in 1199. The minaret was to culminate at more than 60 m, but reached only 44.3 m. The Hassan or Hassan mosque was improperly called Hassan tower.
The colonnade of the building was damaged during the Lisbon earthquake of 1755, which completely destroyed the dome of the tower3.
The Mohammed-V mausoleum is a royal tomb located in Rabat, capital of Morocco. It is located on the esplanade of the Hassan tower and overlooking the mouth of the Bouregreg river. The mausoleum houses the tombs of King Mohammed V - former Sultan Sidi Mohammed ben Youssef - and his sons, Prince Moulay Abdallah and King Hassan II. Designed by the Vietnamese architect Eric Vo Toan, it was built between 1961 and 1971, 10 years of work with 400 Moroccan artisans. The building is characterized by its classic Arab-Andalusian style according to traditional Moroccan art.
