The letter is one of the graphic signs forming an alphabet and used to transcribe a language.
This word comes from Latin littera "character of writing", whose origin is unknown. The Etymological Dictionary of the Latin Language of Ernout and Meillet indicates a possible Greek provenance or an Etruscan loan, "an ingenious and seductive hypothesis, but not rigorously demonstrable. "
The simple word1, a unit carrying meaning of a given language, is an assemblage of one or more letters, possibly supplemented by diacritics (accents, cedilla, dots, brackets, tilde, round, etc.).
The letters of a word are juxtaposed in a conventional way: in French, they are aligned horizontally and written from left to right. However, on posters or signs, they can be arranged differently, including vertically, from top to bottom.

The elements of the letter:
A letter consists of the following elements:
1) Date and place: to be indicated at the top right of your sheet; "Paris, April 12, 2018"
2) An object: this is the case for cover letters that respond to an advertisement or for an administrative mail. This allows the recipient to read more efficiently.
It is difficult to imagine an intimate letter indicating: "object: to ask for your news. !
3) An appeal form: it specifies the identity of the addressee of the letter:
at. if it is known: "Sir," or "Mr. X,"
b. if it is imprecise: "Madam, Sir,"
c. if the person is a loved one: "Dear Clarisse,"
d. if the recipient is multiple: "Dear readers, dear readers"
To avoid: unsuitable formulas: "my good Mr. X", "Dear Mr. Tax Inspector" ...
4) The content of the letter: it must be written in paragraphs. Neither too tight nor too distant, the paragraph is distinguished from the following by a space or even a paragraph. Each paragraph develops a main idea.
5) The politeness formula: it ends the letter and for this reason is fundamental: it marks your recipient. However, it is so stereotyped that not many people really read it ... but take care of it as part of a cover letter.
6) The signature: only the great directors initial their letter.
If you are not one of those, just make a legible signature (not the one you make at the bottom of a check!): Clearly write your name and your name, underlined discreetly if you wish.
If your letter is typed, write these signs down right and sign (for good this time!) Underneath.
Your signature must be discreet but readable and not central! Sign right or left.
