The salary of a notary clerk.

The salary observed for the profession of notary clerk ranges between 25,000 and 40,000 euros gross per year. There is a minimum salary scale to be paid depending on the employee's grade. An executive will therefore naturally receive a higher minimum salary than that of a technician. When starting as a notary clerk, the salary received will often be between 2,000 and 2,500 euros gross per month. This represents a monthly net salary of between 1,550 and 1,950 euros, for an hourly rate which can reach more than 16 euros gross over 35 hours. Most of the time, training requires an apprenticeship period or an internship in a company. It will be possible to use this first experience to negotiate your salary when hiring. With several years of seniority, a senior notary clerk can receive a salary of more than 3,000 euros gross per month. This corresponds to a salary of more than 2,300 euros net monthly. The salary scales for this profession indicate a minimum to be paid. The employer is not subject to any ceiling, and can himself set the level of remuneration of his employee, respecting the minimums indicated. In certain structures, the notary clerk will receive a salary paid over 13 or 14 months. The payment of a variable bonus remains quite rare for this type of profession. The company can provide other benefits such as restaurant vouchers. The geographical location of the firm has very little variation in income.

The work environment.

The profession of notary clerk is very sedentary with very little travel outside the notary office where he practices. However, his days are varied with numerous contacts with collaborators from different studies and different clients. Telephone point, reception at the office in person, response to emails, preparation of files, signing of deeds... so many situations which punctuate the daily life of notary clerks and notaries!

Possible developments.

At the start of his career, the notary clerk carries out simple missions as an assistant notary. Over the course of experience, he can evolve as a senior clerk and become the right-hand man of the notary of the firm where he officiates. He can also manage a study in close collaboration with the notary. The most ambitious will go so far as to compete for the title of notary and take charge of their own notary firm.

The only employer who can accommodate a notary clerk is a notary himself. Within a firm, there are two to three notary assistants for one to two notaries. The choice of study depends on the desired geographical location, the environment in which you wish to operate (rural or urban) and the ease of adaptation to large firms. Good to know: to become the holder of a notarial office, three possibilities exist: by inheritance, by application in a vacant office and by creation of an office. But the creation of an office cannot be done anywhere in France. Under the supervision of the Ministry of Justice, the installation of notaries is governed by the Competition Authority for any creation of notarial offices. Thus, for the period 2021-2023, 112 zones have been determined allowing the installation of 250 new notaries.
