You have been the victim of theft in your home and you report it to your insurance
When you discover a theft in your home, the first instinct is to make a quick inventory of stolen goods, damaged real estate (doors, windows, etc.) and to keep evidence (photos, etc.). Then make a declaration of theft to the nearest gendarmerie or police station. As soon as you are in possession of the receipt for filing a complaint, send your declaration to your insurer by registered letter with acknowledgment of receipt, even if you have not yet had time to take an inventory of all the stolen goods or if you have not been able to collect all the documents attesting to the value of these goods. Indeed, the reporting deadlines provided for in your contract are very short, even if they cannot be less than 48 hours from the discovery of the loss (article L. 113-2 of the Insurance Code). (For more information on this point, see the letter "You were late in reporting a claim. The insurer refuses to compensate you").
recommended letter with receipt note
Dear,
On (date of discovery of the claim), I discovered that my home, insured by the contract (name and number of the insurance contract), had been burgled.
(Briefly explain the circumstances of the accident).
To date, I have not been able to make a complete inventory of stolen or damaged goods, but here is a list of them, as well as a provisional assessment (list what has been stolen or damaged, and give an assessment of your damage). I will send you a complete list as well as the supporting documents necessary to cover this claim (purchase invoices, photos, quotes, etc.) as soon as possible.
You will also find attached the receipt for the complaint (attach a copy of the document and keep the original).
I remain at your entire disposal for any clarification necessary for the investigation of this file.
Please accept, Madam, Sir, the expression of my best regards.
