Types of verbs that fit with the verb phrase :
There are two classification of verbs :
1: The first classification.
a) Action verbs which refer to a certain activity or physical movement.
b) Statement verbs which denote or related to emotion or thinking. E.g. Believe, remember, know….etc.
c) Linking verbs which connect the (s) with the rest of the sentence. E.g. seem, become, sound, look….etc.
2: The second classification.
Main verbs plus Auxiliary verbs:
Main verbs
a) a plain infinitive, e.g. walk, call , go…etc, which has the same form as the present simple and the imperative.
It's used after most models (Can, Could, will, would, shall, should, may, might, must, and ought to) in other structures.
b) a past simple, e.g. Walked, called, went…etc
c) a past participle, e.g. walked, called, gone…etc, which is used for prefect verb phrase and passive verb phrase.
*main verbs also have a form with ending (es, s) for the third person singular.
*main verbs also have a form with ending (-ing).
Auxiliary verbs:
a) Modal. E.g. might , may, can, could…..etc.
b) Primary. E.g. have, has, be……etc.
c) Dummy. E.g. do, did, does.
- She kept working like a machine.
- they were being exploited.
- Mom is making the room.
- Take off your clothes and jump in the lake.
